10 MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE

When you're in a wreck, it's easy to get overwhelmed and make a poor decision. Here are 10 of the most common mistakes to avoid, so you can make sure you get the settlement you deserve.
01

PANICKING

If you're in an accident, try to remain calm.Call police and request an ambulance. Check for injuries to all individuals involved in the accident. If anyone is  injured, report all injuries to the investigating officer.

02

FORGETTING TO GET DETAILED INFORMATION

Get the other driver's name, address, phone number, license plate number, name and owner of the vehicle, and insurance company information. Also write down all names, addresses, and phone numbers of other individuals involved with, or witness to, the accident.

03

TALKING ABOUT THE ACCIDENT

Do not discuss your accident with anyone, except police. That includes your insurance adjuster. You may speak to your adjuster about your vehicle, but not about accident facts, or any injuries.

04

REFUSING MEDICAL CARE

While most injuries are apparent, some take time to appear. Do not make any rash judgments about your medical condition. Do not make any statements. If you seek medical care, make sure you tell the physician about your symptoms.

05

FAILURE TO COLLECT DOCUMENTS

Your legal representative will need copies of the following documents: Accident report, property damage estimates, photos of the property damage and injuries, declaration page from the insurance policy which insures the vehicle involved in the collision, declaration page of all policies of insurance which insures any vehicle in your household, all health insurance cards and health insurance policies.

06

NOT KEEPING A DAILY DIARY

Every detail is important, and it is very easy to forget details during this stressful time. Take time to jot down on a daily basis descriptions of how the injury affects you and your family.

07

FAILURE TO TURN IN BILLS

Most legal offices will assist you with forms sent to you by your health insurance provider. Check your policy to see if your provider qualifies to be paid back from a third-party reimbursement.

08

FORGETTING TO IMMEDIATELY  REPORT THE ACCIDENT TO YOUR INSURANCE PROVIDER

Be sure to notify them as soon as possible, but do not talk to the insurance company of the person at fault.

09

SIGNING ANYTHING!

Do not sign anything until you have discussed your situation with an attorney. Signing the wrong papers could mean you have settled for less than you deserve.

10

BEING IMPATIENT

It takes time to resolve a case and negotiate a fair settlement.
